Greater Noida PNB customers discover missing balance from their accounts

Customers of Punjab National Bank in Greater Noida recently discovered Rs 35 crore missing from their savings and fixed deposit accounts. Account holders allege that their funds vanished without any authorization or SMS notifications from the financial institution. Bank management has since suspended several staff members, including the Aichhar area branch manager, while the Beta-2 police station conducts an active investigation. Many residents in this developing district recently deposited substantial compensation money received from government land acquisitions, making them highly vulnerable to such financial discrepancies.

Land compensation funds disappear without warning

Families who relied on these deposits for their future security now face extreme distress. Santosh, a 60-year-old tea and samosa vendor from Bironda village, lost nearly her entire life savings. Her account initially held Rs 1.29 crore, which she received as compensation for land acquired for the Jewar Airport project. Her son realized Rs 1.18 crore was missing only when he attempted to withdraw cash. She and her sister later protested outside the branch to demand clarity. Vijendra Singh, a local farmer, shared a similarly devastating experience. He reported that his bank balance plummeted from nearly Rs 88 lakh down to a mere Rs 1 lakh. Haneef Khan also lost his savings during this unexplained financial wipeout. He told reporters, "My savings account had Rs 39 lakh, but now nothing is showing in it. I neither received any message nor signed any document authorising the transfer of funds."

Police are Probing unauthorized bank transfers

Zakir, another victim of the incident, found Rs 9.5 lakh completely wiped from his balance. He learned about the unauthorized bank transfers only upon visiting the branch directly, noting that his phone never received any standard withdrawal alerts. Law enforcement officials are currently probing how these large-scale transactions bypassed standard banking security protocols. Bank authorities have assured the affected account holders that they will resolve the complaints, though investigators have not yet traced the exact route taken by the missing bank funds.
