Landslide blocks Balibada ghati road in Odisha’s Gajapati, six villages cut off

Gajapati, Oct 29: Continuous rainfall over the past two days triggered a landslide on Balibada Ghati road in Mohana block of Odisha’s Gajapati district, disrupting road connectivity to six villages.

Three trees were uprooted as soil from the hillside slid onto the road, blocking the route. Waterlogging on another stretch has further affected movement in the area.

The road blockage has affected residents of Sirispada, Baliguda, Tiama, Dholamba, Ramchandrapur and Shamchandrapur villages, leaving them facing difficulties in travelling.

A local resident alleged that the administration was informed about the road blockage on Tuesday, but no action had been taken till the time of reporting. Attempts to contact the local sarpanch also reportedly went unanswered.

Residents are awaiting the clearance of the road to restore connectivity. Further details on the administration’s response are awaited.
