Delhi, May 9: At a time when Pathankot in Punjab, which is located close to the international border, witnessed heavy artillery fire from Pakistan on Thursday, India shot a supersonic fighter Jet F-16 of Pakistan down at its own soil.
In a first, the pilot of the Pakistan's F-16 fighter jet was reportedly captured alive by Indian forces, who succeeded to survive and found escaping the scene despite grievous burn-injuries.
The F-16 supersonic fighter jet of the Pakistan Air Force was reportedly shot down by an Indian surface-to-air missile defence system at the Sargodha air base in Pakistan while it was trajected for a strategic attack on India’s Jammu & Kashmir valleys along with some key cities of Punjab.
As per sources, the fighter jet took off from the Sargodha air base in Pakistan, a key air force station of the Pakistani Air Force. However, it was shot down by the Indian SAM (Surface-to-air missile) near the Sargodha air base.
Notably, F-16 is one of the mainstays of the Pakistani air force. The aircraft was used by the Pakistan Air Force after India's Balakot air strikes in 2019.
