Cuttack, Aug 6: Orissa High Court Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh has pledged to donate his organs in a significant gesture to mark Indian Organ Donation Day. He made this commitment while attending a programme at SCB Medical College in Cuttack as the chief guest.
Chief Justice Singh emphasised the importance of organ donation, describing it as a noble and selfless act that has the potential to save countless lives. He highlighted the need to promote awareness and encourage people, especially in rural areas, to pledge their organs after death.
"Organ donation is a noble and selfless act that has the potential to save countless lives. It is essential that we promote awareness and encourage people to come forward and pledge to donate their organs after death. This message needs to reach every nook and corner of our society, including rural areas," said Singh.
During the event, families of individuals who have donated organs were felicitated, recognising their contributions to this vital cause.
Additionally, Dr Manas Ranjan Sahoo, Vice-Chancellor of Odisha University of Health Sciences, announced that organ donation would be included in the MBBS curriculum, marking a significant step in medical education.
Other notable attendees included Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, President of the Indian Organ Donation Society Dr Prabhas Acharya, SCB Medical College Superintendent Dr Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra, Head of the Urology Department Dr Sameer Swain, Additional DME Umakant Satpathy, and Head of the Nephrology Department Dr Aruna Acharya. They all underscored the importance of organ donation and its impact on saving lives.
