Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: Noted Odia music director and singer Abhijit Majumdar, who remains in a coma following his hospitalization, is currently showing stable vital signs, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar confirmed today.
The central government hospital released a fresh update on Majumdar's condition, stating that both his kidney and liver functions have stabilized. Majumdar, who had multiple pre-existing health conditions, was admitted to the AIIMS emergency department on September 4th in a comatose state and placed on ventilator support.
According to the hospital’s release, Majumdar's health conditions upon admission were severe, with the following diagnoses:
Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (both pontine and extrapontine)
Bilateral Pneumonia (Hospital-acquired Pneumonia)
Bloodstream infection (MDRO-Acinetobacter)
Chronic liver disease
Electrolyte imbalances (hypokalemia, hypophosphatemia, hypomagnesemia)
Nutritional deficiencies (Vitamin D and folic acid)
Majumdar was shifted to the Medical ICU, where he is currently being treated under the supervision of Dr. Srikant Behera, a specialist in ICU and ECMO at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The hospital's update indicated that despite being in a comatose state with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of E2 (eye response), M2-3 (motor response), and VT (ventilator support), his condition has improved with treatment. His electrolyte abnormalities have been corrected, and he is receiving appropriate antibiotics based on culture results, along with other supportive care as per established medical protocols.
At present, Majumdar’s vitals remain stable, and the medical team continues to closely monitor his progress. His family, friends, and fans remain hopeful for his recovery.
