Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday said the limits of democracy are being violated in Odisha today.
“I am a worshiper of democracy. Etiquette and tradition have their place in a democracy. Odisha is witnessing symptoms of Sasikala syndrome since last May. Everyone should be within the parameters of democracy. Those who think that they are going to force the constitution in their own way, they are wrong,” said Pradhan.
He further said that the limits of democracy are being violated in Odisha today.
Sponsored protests are being arranged to protest Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi during her visits to the constituency, he added.
It is very unfortunate if those who have majority power in a democracy show their arrogance and insult their opponents and dissidents. The approach of the British East India Company was also similar, said Pradhan.
Democracy has laws and constitutional norms. As a political opposition party, I expect Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik not to tolerate such undemocratic practices. Let there be discussion and criticism in Odisha. The protest should be done at the political level. The democracy should be respected, added Pradhan.
The government officials indulged in such undemocratic and illegal practices should refrain from doing so, said Pradhan adding that he is making this request on behalf of 4.5 crore Odia people.
