Odisha weather update: IMD predicts thunderstorm activity till May 18, check details

Bhubaneswar, May 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted that thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface winds are very likely to occur across Odisha during 15th to 18th May 2025.

Details of warning for next four days: 

Day 1 (Valid up to 8:30 AM of May 16) 

Orange warning: 

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nawarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada. 

Yellow warning:

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50- 60 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, and Kalahandi. 

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, and Bargarh.

Day 2 (Valid from 8:30 AM of May 16 to 8:30 AM of May 17)

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangapur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, and Mayurbhanj. 

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh, Angul, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha, and Puri.

Day 3 (Valid from 8:30 AM May 17 to 8:30 AM of May 18)

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh.

Day 4 (Valid from 8:30 AM of May 18 to 8:30 AM of May 19) 

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

The Met Department has predicted that there will be no major change in maximum (day) temperature across Odisha for the next 6 to 7 days.
