Bhubaneswar, August 12: The Odisha Vigilance Department on Wednesday arrested a Revenue Inspector while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 bribe from person to help in a mutation case in Baleshwar district.
Vigilance sleuths conducted a trap and nabbed the accused Revenue Inspector Sarat Kumar Sethy of Tudigadia circle of Khaira tehsil under Baleshwar district while taking the bribe from a man for submitting favourable field enquiry report in a mutation case and to facilitate for issuance of ROR (Land Patta) in favour of his grandfather.
According to Vigilance, the complainant had applied for the mutation of his ancestral land to acquire ROR (Record of Rights). But, accused Sri Sethy was delaying the process for no reason.
When the applicant contacted Sethy, the latter demanded bribe Rs 5,000 to process the mutation case.
Upset over illegal approach of the RI, the applicant contacted Vigilance authorities. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and apprehended the accused while he was allegedly accepting the bribe. The entire tainted amount of Rs 5,000 was recovered from his possession.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were underway at two locations linked to Sethy to investigate possible disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered at Baleshwar Vigilance police station under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act. Further investigation is underway.
