Cuttack, Aug 12: In a tragic incident, two 19-year-old students drowned while bathing in the Kathajodi River in Odisha’s Cuttack on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Shubham Das from Kazi Bazaar area and Litu Das from Mahidas Bazar area in Cuttack.
According to sources, the two friends went to the river around 1 PM to bathe. During the bath, one of them suddenly started drowning. The other rushed to save him but was also pulled under by the river’s strong currents.
Local people, upon seeing them drowning, immediately alerted the fire service department. Upon getting the information, fire fighters team arrived with a boat and launched a search operation to trace the students.
After hours of efforts, the duo was rescued and but were declared dead.
Police have seized the bodies and sent them to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the local area following the tragic incident.
