Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: Odisha is set to expand its medical education capacity by introducing two new government medical colleges, increasing the state's MBBS seat intake by 200 for the upcoming academic year. The new institutions are:
Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College and Hospital, Talcher
Located in Talcher and established by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), this medical college will offer 100 MBBS seats. It will be affiliated with Odisha University of Health Sciences and feature a 500-bed hospital to provide practical training for students.
Government Medical College, Phulbani
Situated in Phulbani, Kandhamal district, this college will also offer 100 MBBS seats. It aims to address the healthcare needs of the region while enhancing medical education in the area. This institution will also be affiliated with Odisha University of Health Sciences.
These new colleges are part of Odisha's broader initiative to improve healthcare access in underserved areas and increase the number of medical professionals in the state.
The state government is in the process of seeking approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to begin admissions.
