Puri, May 24: In light of potential terror threats, the Odisha government is planning for the installation of advanced anti-drone technology at the historic 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri.
State Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced that discussions are underway with the Odisha Police to implement a system capable of detecting, tracking, and neutralizing unauthorized or potentially hostile drones.
This move follows increased security concerns after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. To support the initiative, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has expressed its willingness to fund the installation of the anti-drone system if needed.
The goal is to protect the sanctity of the temple and ensure the safety of the millions of devotees who visit annually, particularly during the upcoming Rath Yatra festival on June 27, which is expected to attract over a million pilgrims.
The proposed anti-drone technology will enhance existing security infrastructure at the temple, which already includes AI-powered CCTV surveillance, facial recognition systems, and an increased presence of security personnel.
This comprehensive approach aims to maintain a secure and peaceful environment at one of India's most revered religious sites.
