Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: The state government is in talks with e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Amazon to sell Odisha millet, Agriculture & Farmers' Empowerment Minister Renendra Pratap Swain said on Tuesday.
"Several initiatives have been taken under the Odisha Millets Mission. We are discussing with e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Amazon to make make Odisha millets available globally," said Swain.
Well known food bloggers will be assigned to promote different millet dishes and nutrition values of Odisha's organic millet, he added.
The Odisha government is observing November 10 as 'Millet Day' in the state to promote the grain as a highly nutritive and eco-friendly food product.
Notably, millets are highly rich in protein, fibre, minerals, iron and calcium. The Odisha Millets Mission, a flagship initiative of the state government, has supported women self-help groups (WSHGs) to set up 76 'millet tiffin centres' at various community locations in 13 tribal-dominated districts.
As many as 3,751 preschool children within 3 to 6 years of age, in Lakhimpur block in Koraput district, are being fed little millet khichdi twice a week as part of the mission.
