Bhubaneswar, May 15: The Aska Lok Sabha constituency in Odisha is indeed witnessing an intriguing contest between old and new faces.
Anita Subhadarshini, has been re-nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who previously contested in 2019 and secured significant votes (3,48,042). She had lost to BJD candidate Pramila Bisoyi, who emerged victorious with 552,749 votes.
Anita has improved the BJP’s vote share to 34.33% from the previous 7% in 2014.
The Indian National Congress (INC) has fielded Debakanta Sarma as its candidate in the Aska Lok Sabha seat. He is a new face this time.
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has nominated Ranjita Sahu, another new face, for the Aska parliamentary constituency. BJD has held this seat for the past 28 years and hopes to recapture it.
BJD has been winning this seat since 1998, securing victory five times consecutively. However, BJP’s Anita Subhadarshini is expected to give a tough fight to BJD’s nominee this time.
