Bhubaneswar, Nov 14: A 57-year-old man, identified as C Siba Patra from Ganjam district has been sentenced 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a penalty Rs 10,000 fine, in default, to undergo RI for a further period of one year, for raping his minor daughter five years ago.
Hearing the case, the Adhoc Additional Sessions Judge, Fast Track Special Court (POCSO), Bhubaneswar, convicted Patra for raping his 10-year old daughter in 2018.
The POCSO (protection of children from of sexual offences) Court also expressed deep concern stating how a father could commit such a grievous crime against his own daughter.
As per reports, Patra was staying with his wife and two daughters aged about 12 and 10 years, in Bhubaneswar, when he committed the crime.
It is learnt that his wife delivered another girl child on April 6, 2018. Due to post delivery health complications, she had to remain for a longer period in Capital Hospital, here for treatment.
The 10-year-old younger daughter on April 16, 2018 complained to her elder sibling that their father misbehaved with her. She was crying with pain, when she reportedly narrated the ordeal to her sister. They both then spotted their father sleeping naked in deep sleep. Immediately they fled to a relative's place nearby, reports revealed.
The two sisters then approached the Capital Police for assistance, who produced them before the Child Welfare Committee. Based on the daughters' complain, their father Patra was arrested two days later. The incident then had sent a shock wave in the locality, sources added.
