Odisha: Elderly woman trampled to death by elephant in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal, May 20: In yet another instance of man-animal conflict, an elderly woman was trampled to death by an elephant at Ambanali village under the Dhenkanal Sadar range in Odisha this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Bhima Sahu (60), wife of Bimbadhar Sahu.
According to reports, Bhima was attacked by an elephant early in the morning when she went to a cashew orchard near her village to collect cashews. The attack was so severe that she died on the spot.
After learning about the incident, local villagers rushed to the spot and chased the elephant away. Thereafter, they informed the forest officials, who then arrived at the scene and took stock of the situation.
The officials seized the victim’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
