Nayagarh, April 26: Odagaon Additional District Sessions Court on Friday convicted and awarded death penalty to an accused in the offence of killing two persons and critically injuring four five years back.
The accused was identified as Niranjan Mallick, a resident of Kushdhipi village under Odagaon police limits. On January 17 2019, Niranjan had forcefully entered a nurshing home and attacked two women Sulochana Pradhan and her mother Madani Pradhan with a wooden stick. While Madani succumbed on the spot, Sulochana was rushed to Nayagarh hospital then shifted to a Bhubaneswar based hospital where she also breathed last. Along with that, four persons were critically injured in his attack. Pradhan had also attacked and injured police officials who tried to capture him.
The Court pronounced the verdict after reviewing testimonies of 27 witnesses and police iInvestigation findings.
