Odisha: Country-made firearm, live bullets recovered from car after crash in Sonepur

Sonepur, May 26: In a surprising turn of events, a country-made firearm and live bullets were recovered from a car after it rammed into an electric pole and overturned Ulunda area of Odisha's Sonepur district.

At least three persons sustained serious injuries in the mishap. All the injured people are said to be residents of Sambalpur city.

As per reports, the mishap took place near Matikhai Nuabasti under Ulunda police limits when the car, travelling at high speed from Subarnapur towards Sambalpur, lost control. Thereafter, it rammed crashed into an electric pole and overturned.

Upon getting the information, police along with fire services personnel arrived at the spot and rescued the three injured individuals trapped inside the vehicle.

They were then rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Later they were shifted to VIMSAR in Burla as their health condition deteriorated.

Police searched the car and, to their utter surprise, found a country-made gun along with live bullets inside the vehicle.

A thorough investigation has been initiated into the matter to determine how the firearm was obtained and the cause of the accident, said the police.
