Bhubaneswar, Nov 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has decided not to celebrate Diwali this year as a mark of solidarity with people affected by the post-Cyclone Arnab floods in the state, particularly in southern Odisha.

According to an official communication, no Diwali celebrations will be held at the Chief Minister's residence this year in view of the widespread devastation caused by the floods.

The communication has also requested well-wishers and citizens not to bring gifts or flower bouquets to the Chief Minister's residence on the occasion of Diwali.

Chief Minister Majhi has appealed to people to remain sensitive towards the flood-affected families and extend their support to those struggling in the aftermath of the disaster. He has urged everyone to come forward and help the affected people during this difficult time.

It may be noted that several southern districts of Odisha have been severely affected by heavy rainfall and flooding triggered by Cyclone Arnab. Thousands of people have been displaced, while extensive damage has been reported to houses, agricultural land and other property.
