Odisha Chief Secretary reviews progress of special development projects for Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, September 16: A meeting, led by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, was convened today at Lok Seva Bhawan to assess the progress and implementation of key development projects aimed at transforming Cuttack.

The meeting, which was attended by Cuttack District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde and senior officials from multiple state government departments, focused on initiatives aimed at enhancing the city's infrastructure, economy, and cultural heritage.

Discussions centered on the development of OMP Square, which will feature a vending zone, an IT park, and a convention center. Similarly, plans for Ranihat Square include the construction of shops, government housing, and another vending zone, with the designs nearing finalization. Infrastructure enhancements for Khapuria were also discussed, including road construction, a garden near Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab’s statue, and the establishment of a vending zone. The meeting also highlighted plans for the integrated development of Satyabhamapur, the birthplace of Madhusudan Das.

A key agenda item was the proposed road widening project from Trisulia Square to Nandankanan via Barang to improve connectivity. The meeting also addressed the construction of a barrage on the Mahanadi River, aimed at tackling issues related to flood control, industrial water supply, drinking water, and irrigation.

Industrial revival efforts were another point of focus, with updates on projects such as the restoration of the Badamba sugar mill, progress on the Nuapatna handloom initiative, the revival of the Bhagatpur spinning mill, and developments surrounding the Welspun Textiles project in Cuttack. Additionally, the establishment of cold storage facilities in Cuttack, Banki, Athagarh, and other areas, along with land development in Naraj and the setting up of MSME parks throughout the district, were discussed.

Chief Secretary Ahuja instructed the departmental secretaries to resolve any hurdles hindering project implementation and accelerate timelines. He further emphasized the need for the Cuttack District Collector to ensure smooth coordination among departments for efficient execution.
