Bhubaneswar, May 9:The Odisha government is set to unveil its revised Excise Policy soon.
Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan informed it on Friday.
Harichandan said, a significant move aimed at streamlining the regulatory framework of the state's liquor industry is on.The new policy will have a three-year validity, bringing in a longer-term approach to alcohol regulation in the state.
The minister said the Odisha government is currently working with the policy. It’s almost in the final stages of drafting. A detailed review of existing practices, feedback from stakeholders, and a comparative study of excise policies adopted in other Indian states, were analysed before finalizing the framework.
The upcoming policy will offer a three-year strategic direction for the excise sector, the Minister added.
The previous excise policy was being implemented for a year. The new excise policy will be implemented for three years.
Sources indicate that the Odisha government is likely to make key amendments in the current structure to align with best practices adopted across other states.These changes may include revised licensing norms, enhanced revenue mechanisms, stricter quality control, and a more transparent retail distribution system.
