New Delhi, Aug 20: The National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election, CP Radhakrishnan, is set to file his nomination papers on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Parliament House.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nomination process as the chief proposer in the first set of papers. The nomination will be submitted in four separate sets, each endorsed by 20 proposers and 20 seconders, underscoring strong support across the NDA alliance.

According to sources, around 160 NDA members, including Union ministers and Members of Parliament, are expected to be present during the filing, showcasing the alliance’s unified backing for Radhakrishnan’s candidature.

The decision to nominate Radhakrishnan was taken unanimously during a crucial meeting of NDA floor leaders held at the residence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. Senior NDA ally and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi confirmed the consensus, stating that all attendees extended full support to Radhakrishnan.

Earlier, on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi praised Radhakrishnan’s public service record in a message on social media platform X, calling him a leader of “dedication, humility, and intellect” with a strong grassroots connection.

“In his long years in public life, Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji has distinguished himself with his dedication, humility, and intellect. He has always focused on community service and empowering the marginalised. I am glad that the NDA family has decided to nominate him as the Vice-Presidential candidate of our alliance,” PM Modi wrote.

CP Radhakrishnan, currently serving as the Governor of Meghalaya, is a seasoned BJP leader and a former Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu. He is widely respected for his legislative expertise, administrative experience, and commitment to social empowerment.

The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for next month, and given the NDA's clear numerical advantage in Parliament, Radhakrishnan is widely expected to win the contest comfortably.
