Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: BJD President and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik today strongly criticized the ruling BJP government in Odisha for the worsening law and order situation across the state.
In a post on X written in Odia, Patnaik expressed deep concern over a growing atmosphere of fear among citizens, despite an outward festive mood in the state.
Referring to the shocking murder of senior advocate Pitabas Panda in Ganjam, who was gunned down in front of his own house, Patnaik called the incident “heinous and tragic” and offered his condolences to the grieving family.
He stated that such events have deeply disturbed the public and raised serious concerns about personal safety.
Highlighting a series of troubling incidents, including a heinous crime in a Lakshmi Bus in Konark, a rape case in Rourkela, and rising communal tension in the traditionally peaceful city of Cuttack, Patnaik painted a grim picture of the state's security environment.
He also mentioned the alleged scam in police SI recruitment, which he said has shattered the hopes of many aspiring youth.
Patnaik accused the BJP-led state government of failing to uphold transparency, accountability, and safety in public administration.
“The government has been unable to ensure peace and order in Odisha,” he said, questioning why no exemplary actions have been taken to deter crime.
He urged the state government to act swiftly and responsibly in the interest of public welfare and restore people’s faith in law enforcement and governance.
