Bhubaneswar, June 22: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, has successfully undergone surgery for cervical arthritis at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.
The procedure was conducted under the supervision of renowned cardiologist Dr. Ramakant Panda, who also serves as Patnaik’s personal physician. A team of skilled surgeons, along with medical professionals from the Asian Heart Institute, carried out the surgery, which lasted nearly two hours.
Speaking about the operation, Dr. Panda said, “With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, Naveen Babu’s surgery was successful. The main procedure took around two hours, and he remained in the Operation Theatre for a total of four hours. He is now fully conscious, has begun speaking, and is doing well. He will remain under observation for the next two days, after which he will be shifted to a private room.”
Dr. Panda also confirmed that Patnaik is expected to be discharged within the next five to six days and will continue to be under his supervision during the recovery period.
News of the surgery prompted an outpouring of prayers and well-wishes from BJD leaders and supporters across Odisha. Devotional rituals, including 'Dipa Dana', were performed at various temples in the state for Patnaik’s speedy recovery.
