Navratri Day 6: Devotees worship Maa Katyayani, the Goddess of courage and strength

Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: The sixth day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Katyayani, the sixth manifestation of Goddess Durga, who is revered as the embodiment of courage, strength, and the triumph of good over evil. Devotees across the country observe the auspicious occasion with prayers, special rituals, and devotional offerings, seeking the goddess’s blessings for peace, prosperity, and happiness.

According to Hindu mythology, Maa Katyayani was born to Sage Katyayana after he performed intense penance to seek the goddess’s blessings. She is particularly worshipped for her role in defeating the demon Mahishasura, symbolising the victory of righteousness over evil forces.

Maa Katyayani is traditionally depicted with four hands, riding a lion and holding divine weapons and a lotus. Her powerful form represents fearlessness, determination, and the strength to overcome life’s challenges.

On the sixth day of the nine-day festival, temples are decorated with flowers and lights, while devotees perform puja and chant prayers in honour of the goddess. Many observe fasts and participate in religious gatherings, seeking divine guidance and spiritual strength.

The worship of Maa Katyayani also holds special significance for unmarried women, who traditionally pray to the goddess for a suitable life partner and a harmonious married life.

As Navratri celebrations continue, the worship of Maa Katyayani serves as a reminder of the importance of faith, courage, and inner strength. Devotees believe that her blessings help remove obstacles, inspire positive action, and bring harmony into their lives.

The sixth day thus celebrates not only devotion but also the enduring message that truth, courage, and righteousness ultimately prevail.
