New Delhi, Jan 24: The whole nation is celebrating National Girl Child Day today. The day is dedicated to promoting the rights and well-being of girls and addressing the various issues and challenges they face.

The primary objectives of National Girl Child Day include:

Promoting Gender Equality: National Girl Child Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of gender equality and eliminating discrimination against girls. It emphasizes the need for a society where girls have equal opportunities and rights as boys.

Empowering Girls: The day focuses on empowering girls through education, skill development, and providing them with opportunities to realize their full potential. It seeks to break stereotypes and encourage girls to pursue their dreams and aspirations.

Highlighting Issues: National Girl Child Day serves as a platform to address and highlight the challenges faced by girls in areas such as education, healthcare, nutrition, and protection from discrimination and violence.

Encouraging Support: The day encourages individuals, communities, and government bodies to actively support initiatives that promote the welfare of girls, ensuring they have access to education, healthcare, and other essential services.

The choice of January 24th for National Girl Child Day is symbolic. On this date in 1966, the Women's Liberation Movement in India started, which played a crucial role in promoting gender equality. The day was officially established in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in India to commemorate this historical event and to draw attention to the ongoing challenges faced by girls in the country.
