Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Tuesday announced that the state’s new financial assistance scheme will benefit all eligible women, even if there are multiple eligible individuals within a single family.
Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive Rs 10,000 annually in two equal installments, totaling Rs 50,000 over five years. Named after Lord Jagannath’s sister, the scheme was a key promise of the BJP in its election manifesto and has been implemented since the party came to power in June.
Parida, addressing the media outside the state Assembly, explained that the Subhadra Yojana will cover women aged 21 to 60. Out of approximately 1.37 crore women in this age group in Odisha, about 1.08 crore will be eligible, excluding those with higher incomes or significant economic resources.
She clarified that all eligible women, including those already receiving widow pensions or government scholarships, will benefit from the scheme. If multiple eligible women are in a single family, each will receive the financial support.
The assistance will be directly deposited into beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-enabled bank accounts, and they will also receive a Subhadra Debit Card for ease of access.
