Bhubaneswar, August 10:The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday appealed to the PMLA Court for the conviction of the accused and confiscation of the attached properties worth Rs 46 lakh in connection with the MBBS admission fraud.
The Central Investigating Agency has filed a prosecution complaint against the accused Raghunath Behera, his brother Bharat Behera with other accomplices in the Special PMLA Court, Bhubaneswar in favour of the conviction of the fraudsters.
Sources said a case was registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 on 4/8/2023 based on the complaints of the MBBS aspirants. The Special Court took cognizance of the Prosecution Complaint on August 9, 2023. The accused persons had blocked management seats in different colleges in the State. Subsequently, they duped aspiring students by taking money from them with the promise of providing them with MBBS seats under the management quota.
The ED had initiated an investigation into the matter based on the charge sheet filed by the CID, Crime Branch Odisha.
