Baripada, Sept 26: Heavy monsoon rains and rising river levels have triggered severe flooding across Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, leaving several villages submerged and disrupting road connectivity in multiple areas.
According to the latest reports, the flood has affected 20 blocks, one municipality and one Notified Area Council (NAC) in the district. Betanoti and Badasahi are among the worst-affected areas.
Villages including Patalipura and Kalama in Betnoti block, and Salagaon, Managobindapur, Chandanpur, Durgapur, Kendudiha and Balabhadrapur in Badasahi block, have been inundated. Several homes and agricultural fields have been submerged.
Water levels have also risen on the Budhabalanga Nakhara bridge, with around 2 to 3 feet of water reported on the bridge. Traffic movement has come to a halt on the Betanoti-Badasahi and Manatri-Baisinga routes, affecting connectivity to several villages.
As a precautionary measure, authorities have shifted 10,373 people to safer locations. A total of 89 relief camps have been opened, while 72 free kitchen centres are providing meals to affected residents.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing across the district. Three ODRAF teams and 18 fire service teams have been deployed in the worst-hit areas to assist residents and carry out rescue operations.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged people living in low-lying areas to remain alert and follow instructions issued by the local administration.
