Baripada, Sept 26: The flood situation has started improving in several parts of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district as water levels recede from various wards and affected areas.

The situation has improved in Udala, Kaptipada, Bangiriposi and Saraskana, where roads that were earlier cut off have reopened. Traffic movement has resumed in these areas, allowing residents to gradually return to normal activities.

However, the flood threat continues in several parts of the district. In view of the prevailing situation, the district administration has ordered the closure of all schools from Class 1 to Class 12 in seven blocks.

The affected blocks are Thakurmunda, Kaptipada, Udala, Gopabandhunagar, Khunta, Badasahi and Betnoti. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students until water levels recede further and road connectivity improves.

Meanwhile, relief operations continue in the affected areas. Officials and rescue teams are visiting remote villages and ensuring the supply of food, drinking water and medical assistance to people staying in relief camps.

Special attention is being given to children, elderly people and those requiring medical assistance in the temporary shelters.

Although water has started receding in some areas, authorities are continuing to monitor the situation. Damage to homes, household belongings and standing crops is also being assessed.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through flooded roads and remain in contact with local authorities for further updates.
