Bhubaneswar, April 17: A large-scale eviction drive was carried out in Shyampur on the outskirts of the city on Friday by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), with the support of heavy police deployment. Senior officials supervised the operation, which targeted alleged encroachments on government land.
The eviction exercise witnessed brief tension as some locals opposed the move. However, the situation was brought under control after additional police forces were deployed, and the drive continued with the use of bulldozers.

In a significant development, officials recovered a large number of LPG cylinders from a house during the eviction. When questioned, the house owner failed to give a satisfactory explanation regarding the stockpile. The seized cylinders reportedly include both 14 kg and 5 kg units.
The recovery has raised serious concerns, especially at a time when many consumers are facing issues with LPG booking and supply. Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain whether the cylinders were procured legally or stored through illegal means.
