Bhubaneswar, July 10: Train services on the Mumbai-Howrah route were suspended for five hours after a poster allegedly put up by Maoists was discovered on the railway track near Manoharpur, at the Odisha-Jharkhand border.
With passenger safety as the top priority, authorities suspended train services on the Mumbai-Howrah rail line.
Passenger, express, and mail trains were stranded at various stations between Jharkhand and Rourkela for nearly five hours. Train services resumed at around 6 am on Wednesday after railway authorities conducted a thorough inspection.
This disruption follows a recent encounter between Maoists and security forces in the forests of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, resulting in the deaths of five Maoists including two women and zonal commander Kande Honhaga. Through the poster, the Maoists have called for a bandh (shutdown) today (July 10) in retaliation to the killings.
Anticipating potential violence, search operations have been intensified along the borders since last night.
