Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: Commissionerate Police on Friday apprehended a person for allegedly killing a woman shopkeeper in Gothapatana area of Bhubaneswar.
The accused has been identified as Mithun Jena (34) of Gangapatna area. Shockingly, the killing was a fallout of a petty dispute. The accused had gone to Sasmita Behera’s eatery shop to buy Ghuguni (chickpea curry) on November 5. However, the woman refused to give him the curry and they had a verbal argument over the issue.
Mithun, holding a grudge over the matter decided to kill the woman and purchased a knife. On November 6, he again went to the tiffin stall of the woman and stabbed her many times killing her on the spot. Unfortunately, the husband of the woman had gone to fetch water from a nearby tap during that time. Mithun after committing the crime fled from the spot and threw the knife. Police have seized the weapon and arrested the accused.
“A complaint regarding the murder was lodged with police by the brother of the deceased. Based on the complaint, police had registered a case and started an investigation into the incident. Further investigation in this regard is underway," said police.
