Athmallik, June 17: A man sustained critical injuries after being allegedly stabbed by an intoxicated individual following a roadside altercation in Odisha's Angul district.

The injured person has been identified as Bharat Gaigaria of Jadupur village under Athmallik police station limits. He was initially taken to Athmallik Medical Hospital and later referred to Angul District Headquarters Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

According to reports, Bharat was returning home on a motorcycle when he encountered Sukuru Munda, who was reportedly riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol. An argument broke out between the two over giving way on the road.

During the heated exchange, Sukuru allegedly attacked Bharat with a knife, stabbing him in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.

Local residents rushed the injured man to Athmallik Medical Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Angul for advanced treatment.

Athmallik Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have seized the knife allegedly used in the attack. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused.
