Madhya Pradesh: 13-yr-old girl fakes own kidnapping, demands Rs 15 lakh ransom

Jabalpur, June 30: In a dramatic turn of events, a 13-year-old girl allegedly faked her own kidnapping and demanded Rs 15 lakh ransom through a handwritten note after getting scolded by her mother for excessive usage of mobile phone in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur.

As per reports, the girl, a Class 7 student, lives with her mother in Priyadarshini Colony under Khamaria police station. She left home on Sunday morning without informing anyone.

Initially, her mother thought that her daughter would have gone to visit her friends or her grandmother and would come back soon. But when she did not return after several hours, her mother started calling and searching the area.

Unable to trace her, her mother, after hours of efforts, lodged a missing complaint at the Khamaria police station. Acting on it, the police swung into action and began a widespread search. Several teams were deployed at various locations in the city to trace the girl.

While searching, the mother found a handwritten note in her daughter's school bag. The note, written in Hindi, said, "Your daughter has been kidnapped. If you want her safe, arrange Rs 15 lakh within 15 days. If you inform the police, she will be killed."

The note caused panic but also gave the police an important clue. Handwriting analysis showed that the note was written by the girl, as it matched her writing in school notebooks.

Following more leads, an auto-rickshaw driver told the police he had dropped the girl off in the Sadar Bazar area.

After searching seven locations in the city, the police finally found the girl in a secluded area and brought her back to her mother safely. The family had been living apart since the mother separated from her husband several years ago.

Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Khamaria police station Sarojini Chouksey stated that initially, they also believed it could be a kidnapping case. However, the handwriting on the note and the auto driver's statement helped solve the case.

The girl admitted to writing the note herself. She was counseled and warned not to repeat such actions, but no legal action was taken against her, he added.
