Lopar likely to move towards Maharashtra, new lopar may form on Oct 1

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 26: The low pressure area formed over north Odisha and adjoining Bay of Bengal moved erratically and presently lay over north-west Bay of Bengal off the south Odisha coast, the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of SOA Deemed to be University here said on Friday.

It was expected to move in a westerly direction over south Odisha towards the Maharashtra-Gujarat coast and the movement would continue till September 28, a CEC bulletin said.

Under its influence, light to moderate rain was continuing across Odisha on Friday and might continue on Saturday, it said.

The weather will improve from September 27 afternoon and continue till September 30 with probability of one or two spells of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning. The coastal districts may experience light rainfall on October 1.

The bulletin said a cyclonic circulation was likely to form over central Bay of Bengal on September 30 and turn into a low pressure area on October 1. Its initial movement is likely to be in a northerly direction and subsequently take a north-westerly direction.

 In case factors continue to be favourable, the low pressure area would concentrate into a depression on October 2 and cross the Odisha-West Bengal coast on the same night or October 3 morning.

 Under its influence, moderate rainfall will occur in most places of coastal and north Odisha districts on October 2 and 3. The districts to experience the rains will be Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Valangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Angul and Nuapada, the bulletin said.
