Bhubaneswar, May 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that a low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.
According to the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, the system, which developed at 8:30 am today, is expected to move slowly northward and intensify into a more prominent low-pressure system over the next 48 hours.
The IMD predicted that several districts in Odisha are expected to experience heavy rainfall under the influence of the low-pressure area.

Orange warning: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h, along with heavy to very heavy rainfall, are likely to occur in the afternoon or evening at one or two places in the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Jajpur.
Yellow warning: Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of 40-50 km/h, and heavy rainfall are very likely to occur in the afternoon or evening at one or two places in the following districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Khurda, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Nuapada, Bargarh, Nabarangapur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Boudh, and Sonepur.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h are very likely to occur in the afternoon or evening at one or two places in the districts of Nayagarh, Ganjam, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Balangir.

Orange warning: Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of 50-60 km/h, and heavy to very heavy rainfall are very likely to occur in the afternoon or evening at one or two places in the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Koraput, and Rayagada.
Yellow warning: Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of 50-60 km/h, and heavy rainfall are very likely to occur in the afternoon or evening at one or two places in the districts of Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h are very likely to occur in the afternoon or evening at one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir.
