New Delhi, Ap 26: Amid stringent security measures, the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections commenced at 7 am today.
Spanning across 12 states and a Union territory, a total of 88 constituencies are slated for polls.
Significant candidates in this phase include Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor from the Congress party, vying to secure their seats in Kerala’s Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram respectively.
Hema Malini of the BJP eyes a third consecutive win in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura. With a staggering 1202 candidates contesting across these constituencies, the electorate boasts a massive count of 158.8 million individuals, comprising 32.8 million young voters and 3.4 million first-timers.
The states and Union Territory participating in today's polls are Kerala (20/20), Karnataka (14/28), Rajasthan (13/25), Uttar Pradesh (8/80), Maharashtra (8/48), Madhya Pradesh (6/29), Assam (5/14), Bihar (5/40), Chhattisgarh (3/11), West Bengal (3/42), Manipur (1/2), Tripura (1/2), and Jammu (1/5).
