Bhubaneswar, May 12: In a shocking incident, a man and his grandson lost their lives after being struck by lightning in Narayanpur village under Patrapur block of Ganjam district on Monday.
The victims are M. Sakili Kaniari and his grandson M. Bhubesu Kaniari.
It is said the duo had taken their buffaloes out to graze in a nearby field when a sudden thunderstorm hit the area. In an attempt to shield themselves from the rain, they took shelter under a tree.
Unfortunately, a lightning bolt struck the tree, leaving both of them critically injured. Local residents immediately rushed them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Patrapur, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village.
