KOLKATA, June 28, 2025 - Disturbing details have surfaced in the alleged gangrape of a 24-year-old law student at South Calcutta Law College, with the victim reporting physical assault with a hockey stick, video recording of the crime, and threats of online leak if she spoke about the incident.

The shocking incident, which occurred on June 25 within the college premises, has resulted in the arrest of three individuals, including a college staff member, raising serious questions about campus security and student safety in educational institutions.

Brutal Assault and Video Blackmail

According to the police complaint filed by the victim, the assault took place between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM inside the law college. The student alleged that prime accused Manojit Mishra, a college staff member, along with two student accomplices, not only sexually assaulted her but also filmed the crime.

"She has alleged that the three accused had kept the mobile footage of the assault and threatened to release it on the internet if she talked to anybody about the incident," a police source told PTI. The victim's complaint details how she was threatened with video leak as a form of continued intimidation.

The assault reportedly involved physical violence beyond the sexual crime. "'J' was forcefully raping me... 'M' and 'P' stood and saw everything," the victim stated in her complaint, indicating the presence of all three accused during the assault. She also alleged being hit with a hockey stick during the ordeal.

Desperate Pleas for Mercy Ignored

The victim's statement reveals the horrific nature of her experience. "I fought back... I cried and asked him to let me go... I even touched his feet but he didn't let me go," she informed police, describing her desperate attempts to escape the assault.

"He tried to force me with the intention of having sex. I denied and fought back by not letting him do anything and pushing him back. I cried and asked him to let me go. I told them I have a boyfriend and I love my boyfriend. But he did not agree," the victim's statement revealed.

The complaint further alleges that the accused locked the main college gate, preventing her escape. "They had locked the main gate of the college and the guard was helpless and did not help," she stated, highlighting the planned nature of the crime.

Medical Evidence Supports Allegations

Kolkata Police confirmed that medical examination results corroborated the victim's gangrape allegations. The forensic evidence has strengthened the case against the three accused, all of whom have been remanded to four days of police custody by the court.

Police have confiscated the mobile phones of all three accused and sent them for forensic analysis to recover any recorded material and establish the complete sequence of events.

Arrests and Legal Proceedings

The three accused - Manojit Mishra (college staff member), 19-year-old first-year student Zaib Ahmed, and 20-year-old student Pramit Mukherjee - were arrested following the victim's complaint filed on June 26. All three were produced before court and remanded to police custody.

However, Mishra's lawyer, Azam Khan, has denied his client's involvement, claiming, "These are baseless allegations against my client. He is being framed because of a political tussle."

Echoes of Past Tragedies

This incident has brought back traumatic memories of the rape and murder of a medical intern at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August last year, highlighting ongoing concerns about women's safety in educational institutions across West Bengal.

The case underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and strict protocols to ensure student safety within college premises. As the investigation continues, the victim's courage in reporting the crime despite threats has been crucial in bringing the accused to justice.

The investigation is ongoing, with forensic analysis of confiscated mobile phones expected to provide crucial evidence in establishing the complete sequence of events.
