Bhubaneswar, September 20: With Commissionerate Police bidding farewell to 2013-batch IPS officer Jagmohan Meena on Saturday night, the State Government is likely to name of his successor as Bhubaneswar DCP either today or tomorrow, sources said.

The race for being the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) is on at full steam ahead of the crucial festive seasons and Assembly session.

The names doing the rounds is Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M, Khordha SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas, Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari and Keonjhar SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagdu.

It is discussed that the Government may also opt for an interim arrangement before making a regular appointment, particularly with the festive season approaching.

Talks are doing the rounds that a DIG-rank officer with prior experience in Bhubaneswar policing may be assigned as the in-charge DCP during the crucial period.

DIG (Eastern Range) Pinak Mishra may be given the responsibility of in-charge DCP. Mishra has already served as the Bhubaneswar DCP, sources said.

For the context, Meena opted for voluntary retirement citing personal reasons.

“The President is pleased to accept the resignation of Jagmohan Meena with effect from September 11,” a notification from Ministry of Home Affairs stated on Thursday.

Meena, who took charge as DCP on March 5, 2025 had come under sharp criticism following a surge in crimes and his alleged inept handling of the daylight lynching of railway constable Soumya Ranjan Swain at Balianta on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on May 7. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also reprimanded the Commissionerate Police on the matter.
