New Delhi, June 1: IndiGo has announced a firm order for 30 additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft, building on its previous order of 30 placed in April 2024. The announcement was made by IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers at a press conference on Sunday, signaling the airline’s continued commitment to expanding its wide-body, long-haul capabilities.

The latest order forms part of IndiGo’s broader agreement signed last year with Airbus, which included 30 firm orders and 70 purchase rights for the A350. “Today, we are confirming our intention to convert 30 of those 70 purchase rights into a firm order,” Elbers said, adding that deliveries are set to begin in 2027.

At the event, Elbers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus representatives, formalizing the new commitment.

This new order brings IndiGo’s total number of A350s on order to 60, a key move as the airline eyes international expansion and strengthens its position in the wide-body aircraft segment.

IndiGo has aggressively expanded its fleet in recent years. In June 2023, the airline made aviation history by placing the world’s largest single aircraft order—a 500-aircraft deal with Airbus, primarily for the A320 Family. This brought IndiGo’s total order backlog for narrow-body aircraft to nearly 1,000 aircraft, with deliveries extending well into the next decade.

With over 900 aircraft currently on order, including narrow-body and wide-body models, IndiGo is poised to not only expand its domestic and international network but also support India’s ambition to become a global aviation leader.

“These orders deepen and expand our strategic relationship with Airbus to an unprecedented scale,” IndiGo had previously stated.

The airline’s growing fleet will allow it to further densify its domestic reach and significantly enhance its global footprint, aligning with the Indian government’s vision of transforming India into a major hub in international aviation.
