Sonepur, AP 15: Police in Odisha's Sonepur district have arrested two individuals and seized counterfeit Indian currency notes (FICN) worth Rs 8.47 lakh. The seizure occurred during a routine patrolling operation on the night of April 14 under the Sonepur Police Station limits.

A police team, led by Sub-Inspector Anil Behera, intercepted a suspicious SUV near Block Chhak. During the vehicle search, the officers discovered a blue carry bag in the possession of the occupants, containing 1,695 fake currency notes in Rs 500 denominations.

The accused have been identified as Abhilash Purusottam Satapathy alias Libun (21), from Jakhapur in Jajpur district, and Prasant Das (34), from Mardarajpur under Khanpa police limits in Nayagarh district. Both individuals were arrested at the scene. Police also seized the vehicle and two mobile phones from the accused.

Upon interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed that they had sourced the fake currency notes from Bargarh district and were distributing them in Sonepur and surrounding areas.

A case has been filed at Sonepur Police Station under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The accused were produced in court on Wednesday, and further investigations are ongoing.
