Balangir, April 4: A huge amount of unaccounted cash worth ₹40 lakh was seized by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from the Titlagarh–Kesinga railway station area, raising serious questions over its source and purpose.
According to reports, an outsider businessman was spotted moving in a suspicious manner at Kesinga railway station in Kalahandi district. Acting on suspicion, RPF personnel detained him and conducted a search, during which bundles of cash amounting to ₹40 lakh were recovered.
The individual, identified as Prabhas Samuel from West Bengal, has been taken into custody at the Titlagarh RPF police station for further questioning. His statement regarding the cash has reportedly created confusion and raised multiple questions.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the accused was travelling from West Bengal to Raipur. He claimed that the money was meant for a wedding. However, officials have not ruled out other possibilities.
RPF authorities stated that officials from the Income Tax Department will conduct a detailed investigation to ascertain the source of the cash and its intended use. Further clarity is expected after the completion of the probe.
