Rajya Sabha Elections: Scrutiny concludes; 5 veterans from Odisha now in the race

With the Rajya Sabha Election scheduled for March 16, scrutiny process has been concluded on Friday. In Odisha, as many as 5 candidates finally remained in the race to contest the elections for the Upper House, following the scrutiny, concluded this afternoon.

Bhubaneswar, March 6: With the Rajya Sabha Election scheduled for March 16, scrutiny process has been concluded on Friday.

In Odisha, as many as 5 candidates finally remained in the race to contest the elections for the Upper House, following the scrutiny, concluded this afternoon.

According to report, a nomination paper filed by one Kante Sayanna, reportedly a native of Telangana, was rejected during the scrutiny round. However, nomination papers of five candidates, were found alright in every respect and remained clear for the contest.

As per the official sources, the candidates cleared for the Rajya Sabha contests include, Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Santrupt Mishra from BJD, Datteswar Hota, a common candidate backed by BJD & Congress both, and former Union Minister Dilip Ray contesting as an Independent candidate.

Worth mentioning, dateline for withdrawal of nominations is scheduled for March 9. According to observers, no candidate, now on the ground, is going to withdraw his candidature, to secure a coveted throne in the Upper Chamber of the Parliament.
