New Delhi, Aug 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted people on the occasion of the country's 78th Independence Day.
In his address to the nation, Modi emphasised the significance of the day as a moment to honour the numerous individuals who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom. "The country is deeply indebted to them," he remarked.
The Prime Minister also extended his condolences to the families affected by recent national disasters.
Earlier, the Prime Minister paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with other ministers arrived at the Red Fort to attend Independence Day celebrations.
