Bhubaneswar, August 16: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a special weather advisory predicting heavy to very heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across several districts of Odisha from August 18 to 19, following the likely formation of a fresh low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed that the existing low-pressure system, which had formed over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh, shifted into south Chhattisgarh and nearby regions on Saturday morning. Associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestward, the system is expected to move west-northwestwards, gradually lose strength, and reach Gujarat by August 18 as a weakened cyclonic circulation.
Meanwhile, the IMD has sounded caution over the emergence of another low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 18. This new system is anticipated to trigger a fresh spell of widespread and intense rainfall across various parts of Odisha.
