IMD forecasts cyclonic storm formation in BoB, warns of impending rainfall

Bhubaneswar, May 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center has issued a forecast on the formation of a depression over the Bay of Bengal today, with expectations for it to intensify into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow, May 25th.
According to the latest bulletin released by the weather department, a low-pressure system that emerged over the Bay of Bengal on May 22nd is projected to continue its northeastward movement, concentrating into a depression over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 24th, 2024. Subsequently, it is anticipated to further intensify into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 25th. The severe cyclonic storm is predicted to make landfall near the Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts by the evening of May 26th.
As a consequence of the impending storm, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are expected at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, including Rayagada, Koraput, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri and Sundargarh. Dry weather is forecasted to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha within the next 24 hours.
Furthermore, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Dhenkanal,Ganjam, Gajapati, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Rayagada, and Malkangiri.
