New Delhi, Aug 11: The allegations raised by the U.S. short seller Hindenburg against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch and her husband have sparked intense political reactions, with opposition parties demanding the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the matter.
On Sunday, Congress leader Pawan Khera expressed his skepticism about the effectiveness of any measures short of a JPC.
He stated, "The Government of India has shown a lack of urgency in pursuing any special investigation. Hindenburg has released another report, bringing to light the actions of SEBI Chief Madhabi Buch and her husband, Dhaval Buch. Their investments in offshore companies have been exposed, including those linked to Gautam Adani's brother, Vinod Adani."
"When Madhabi Buch was appointed as SEBI Chairperson, was the Government of India unaware of these connections? If they were unaware, it reflects a significant failure on their part. If they were aware, it implicates the Prime Minister in this conspiracy. We are not seeking answers from SEBI Chief or Gautam Adani; we are asking the Prime Minister directly—did your government, which prides itself on vigilance, truly not know about this? Only a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) can uncover the truth," he said.
In addition, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor called for either a satisfactory explanation from those accused or an investigation into the allegations.
