Bhubaneswar, April 20: Odisha remains gripped by intense heatwave conditions, with no immediate relief in sight. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Monday, predicting that the hot and humid weather will persist across various regions of the state for at least the next four days.
In its evening bulletin, the IMD's Bhubaneswar centre forecasted that districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati will continue to experience scorching conditions on Tuesday. The bulletin also noted that areas like Angul, Kandhamal, Sundergarh, Bolangir, and Sambalpur will face warm conditions during Tuesday night.
The heatwave is expected to intensify in several districts, including Jharsuguda, Balangir, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, continuing for the next three days.
As per the latest weather report, 14 places across the state recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C. Titlagarh, located in Bolangir district, was the hottest, registering a maximum temperature of 42.5°C, followed closely by Jharsuguda at 42.4°C. Other areas such as Talcher saw 42°C, while Bolangir recorded 41.8°C, Angul 41.7°C, and Bhawanipatna 41°C.
In addition, the temperature hovered between 40°C and 41°C in districts including Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Paralakhemundi, Nuapada, Rourkela, and Hirakud.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded temperatures of 35.7°C and 36.8°C, respectively, indicating that even the coastal areas are not immune to the ongoing heatwave.
