Bhubaneswar, April 8: A gruesome murder has been reported from Sundarpada area under Airfield Police Station limits, where a woman was allegedly killed by her husband. The accused, identified as Debaraya Sadangi, a retired government officer, has been detained by police.
According to sources, the accused allegedly slit his wife’s throat, leading to her death. Police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Debaraya Sadangi, who earlier served as a Senior Assistant in the AG Office, had retired around two years ago and was residing in the locality with his wife. The couple has a married daughter.
On Wednesday morning, Sadangi reportedly spoke to his daughter over the phone and asked her to recharge her mother’s mobile. Around noon, the daughter visited their house at Patrapada and handed over gold ornaments and cash to her mother before leaving. However, at around 1 PM, she received a call from police informing her about her mother’s death, following which she rushed to the spot.
The daughter informed police that her father had been suffering from depression. Meanwhile, relatives who arrived at the house were initially stopped by police before being allowed entry after verification.
Police have taken the accused into custody and launched a detailed investigation into the incident. A scientific team has also visited the spot to collect evidence.
